I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Based on the blurb and the cover, readers will be expecting a teen female protagonist fighting for her rightful claim to the throne. I was expecting a Queen of the Tearling or *fingers crossed* another Throne of Glass. Instead, this book is mostly the narrative of adult protagonists that most teens won't care about: The widowed queen working stealthily to give her daughter the throne, a couple of ad [...]

I think I went into this with much higher expectations for how I'd like Callie (Caliandra). Our first scene with her however left me feeling irritated and thst persisted til closer to the end. She's judgmental, argumentative and clueless much of the time. Other characters give her sound advice, but she's ok with ignoring it, or claiming its too hard or wanting others to change instead. She's young, though that's hardly an excuse when her younger sister is more level headed.I was also kind of unc [...]

[Full disclosure: I requested and received a free ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.]If I could describe King Callie (both the book and the title character) in one word it would be ‘underwhelming’. For a story with magic, prophecy, revenge and intrigue, this book is kind of boring.Caliandra as a character is thoroughly underwhelming. She mopes around about being ditched for a richer woman for most of the book and then spends the rest of the book getting mad at the peop [...]

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.(Spoilers within)I'm writing this review before this book is available for sale, so it's possible some things that I mention will be fixed or changed before its released. The first thing I noticed about this book was the cover. I'm sure all of us are used to fantasy armor, and especially fantasy armor that looks ridiculous on women (bikini armor or other vulnerable areas being left uncovered, breasts shaped onto armor that would [...]

I received a free copy of this title through NetGalley.3.5 starsThis book was definitely better than I expected. YA fantasy is very hit-or-miss for me these days, so I always start out a little skeptical. I thought that the majority of the story would be centered on how Callie is named King, and the end of the book would be her coronation, but the story is much more about how she will have to work to keep her crown once she has it and what it takes to run a kingdom. I agree with a lot of the oth [...]

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.First I wanted to say that I was fresh from reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, when I chose to read King Callie by B. Lynch and the COVER is what drew me into picking the book from our review board. The strong heroine with her stylish feminine armor and mid-evil weaponry drew me in! Top notch visual artistry! A definite plus for visual appeal!!Calisandra is a teenage princess but being princess doesn't give [...]

The Kingdom of Barra chooses its Kings through the power of Peacebringer. The present King is on his deathbed and his son Valric is determined not to lose his status of prince. He asks Royce, the palace seer to tell him how to save his father. Royce catches a glimpse of a devastated Barra under King Valric and decides to send Valric to his death to preserve the kingdom. After Valric departs Royce sees the Kings elder daughter Callie as King. Not everyone in Barra is content to let Peacebringer ch [...]

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. When you read the synopsis you expect a young girl fighting for her crown and some high fantasy action going on. Instead you have an irritating teenage girl who doesn't grow, a not so villainous villain, a seer who spends his time in the dungeon, a mother who has more backbone than anyone in the story and other characters that fall flat. This story is told by multiple POVs and so Callie isn't real [...]

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.I really really really want to like this book. but I just can't. It is nothing new or original. It lacks real substance. A whole lot of nothing happens for such a drawn out book. The characters are cringe-worthy. They go from simple minded sheep to strong, willful characters with backbone with no explanation or reasonable process And.It's so boring. Like, check my percentage read every chapter boring. If this had n [...]

Nicely done, especially for a first bookThe story is a great summer read. It finishes with you wanting more but at least it doesn't leave you at a cliffhanger.I'm looking forward to the next book.

This was a sweet and charming story told from multiple points of view. I enjoyed it, however I would have liked to hear from Callie a little more. I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
