If you haven’t read the first book in this series, The Heart of the Kingdom, I would absolutely do so before reading this review. Not only is this review a bit spoilerish for that book, but it is also a great fantasy story and I really do recommend it. Also, I think that this series is one that is best read in sequence. In fact this review took so damn long to come out after the release date (sorry!) because I got three pages into this book and realized that I needed to go back and read the fi [...]

„The Northern Heart“ is the second book of a classic fantasy series. Elves, magic, a curse and an old conflict meet in a medieval scenario. The underlying action is simple but offers nice entertainment. Above all the dynamic between Pearce and Emmerich makes you curious about the progress of that story.First of all: I would have given the book four stars because it has a solid and entertaining base. What spoiled me however were the many textual errors. Word repetitions, repetitions of senten [...]

The Northern Heart by Sasha L. Miller is the second book in the Kingdom Curses series, following the aftermath of Emmerich saving the royal family and the search for a cure that will stop the trances brought on by the curse he received in return. I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.Sasha L. Miller has an engaging and direct writing style that I find very enjoyable to read, and the prose in The Northern Heart generally carries the story well. One of my fa [...]

Good Continuation3.5 rounded up. I had hoped to see more of the characters from the previous book, but location-wise, it wasn't really feasible. I liked the story between Pearce and Emmerich, but would have loved more detail, even flashbacks or something. I'm guessing there will be another book (hoping for one, actually), since stuff happens at the end and with any luck we'll get to see Katari and Heike some more. Be advised, this is not a standalone.

'The Northern Heart' is a sequel to 'The Heart of the Kingdom' and it brings even more of that magicpunk feel to the world built inside. The magic tech is quite captivating and the plot brings a few ups and downs that keep the reader engaged. Also, there's the oblivious and mutual pining trope, which is one of my guilty pleasures, heh. Another good read that draws in with eclectic characters and captivating worldbuilding.

From Magnolia Reviews: Three PetalsThe characterizations, the world building, and the plot were all phenomenal and made for a great read, however the lack of description and the abrupt ending hurt my overall enjoyment of this book. I do recommend it, but I can't help hoping the next book in the series will be better. Read the full review on Maggie's website: magnoliareviews.weebly/rev

This book was exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been in quite of a reading slump, not really knowing what I want to read and not really liking what I’m reading. However, this book managed to pull me out of that slump quite brilliantly.Emmerich is a man who saved the royal family, but got a curse in return. He keeps blacking out—he calls them trances—and doing things that he doesn’t know or remember he’s doing. The trances are getting more and more frequent, and those around [...]

Review for BookWinkedTell us about Northern Heart.Northern Heart is the second book in the Kingdom Curses series and focuses on Emmerich and Pearce, whom we saw in the first book of the series. The story is set at “the wall”. A great big protective wall that divides the kingdom of Imaria and is designed to keep the elves of Camlien out. As we know from the previous book, the elves of this world are not quite as nice as we normally see elves. What is the story about?Emmerich was struck by a c [...]
